40` Classic Racing Wooden Yacht
The yacht was designed by German Frers and built in Uruguay in 1962 reportedly to the standards of
the American Cruising Association. The yacht was used for racing and in 1982 underwent a major
refit in the same Shipyard in which she was built. At this time the substantial stainless steel
framework underneath the mast was fitted and the masts were changed to aluminium.
The yacht was damaged in hurricane Ivan in Grenada. In 2008 she was bought by the present owner
who is a highly skilled shipwright operating out of Grenada Marine in St Davids. Since then the
vessel has undergone a major refit and partial rebuild by the owner and his workers in preparation
for use as the owners private yacht. A survey is available, boat is in excellent condition.
HULL
The yacht was repaired and refurbished at the owners shipwright workshop between 2009 and 2012.
Repairs were extensive and included; frames, floors, keel and keel bolts, planking, decking, rigging,
engine, electronics and the interior furniture.
The hull is double planked with mahogany planks over laminated mahogany frames. The inner layer
of planking is edge glued, the outer layer is caulked. The outer planks are secured with bronze screw
from the inside out and then fastened at the frames with originally bronze screws but now partly
replaced with stainless steel.
The batteries are charged by the two 90 W solar panels, the wind generator (both of these are
regulated) All interior and navigation lights are LED type
